Kairos
“‘For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father's house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?’”
Esther 4:14 (English Standard Version)
Have you ever wondered how a Sovereign God measures time? To be seated above it yet work through it to guide His creation through the mysteries of kingdom advancement— bringing a reality to Earth that will be perfected in eternity. This God is not subject to time yet it seems as though He submits His plans to this concept He’s created to emphasize His intentionality, His wisdom, His wonder, and His glory.
For a Sovereign God, every single minute is accounted for with the purpose of a predetermined end. Not one second is wasted. There are no coincidences and no random occurrences. Those whose hearts have been ransomed by the cross have the unique privilege of discerning this truth. The cross highlights every correlation, aligning moments to divine understanding. The Holy Spirit opens their eyes to the revelation of Kairos— moments defined by significance, importance, and value.
Kairos moments are the critical moments when the ordinary collides with the supernatural, bringing forth the perfect will of God.
The moment when a stranger spoke a word that pierced a rebellious heart and brought it to sincere repentance.
The moment when a phone call kept a bullet in its barrel.
The moment when a Queen is tasked to stand in the gap for an entire people group.
The moment when a food delivery turned into a 1:1 with Goliath.
The moment when a proclamation of the arrival of the Son of Man became a baptism in the Jordan River.
The moment when a twelve-year-long aliment came to an immediate end by the single touch of the hem of a Man’s garment.
The moment when a lifelong fisherman became a Fisher of Men.
The moment a blind man’s shouts were met by healing.
The moment a boy’s lunch was able to feed five thousand.
The moment when the trumpet sounds.
Divine moments where we are suddenly found by the Sovereign God and aligned with the overarching plan of eternity.
Kairos is not quantitative time but qualitative time. It’s not calculated in hours, days, decades, or centuries. Rather, Kairos represents divine appointments where God intervenes to bring to pass a desired end. Kairos moments are unexpected, unscheduled, unplanned, and unexplainable. It’s those moments when sovereignty takes hold of time to transition Its creation into a new season.
In our naivety, time is deciphered through age, experience, and milestones. There’s an expectation of time that is limited to the height of human understanding. But, as Paul says in Ephesians 5:17, don’t be foolish. It is our responsibility as believers to interpret the time/season of our individual lives and the time/season of the point in history we were predetermined to exist in. Faith is the lens through which we can accurately identify kairos moments. These moments come directly from the realm of God so they can not be explained by way of logic or cultural constructs.
The inability to discern the times makes it easy to miss a move of the Lord. The Lord operates in time and seasons. He has submitted the process of fulfillment of prophecy to the order of time He’s created. However, He has given His people the ability to see spiritually and respond appropriately in the natural.
I’m unsure why the Holy Spirit directed me to write this blog post. However, part of me believes it’s a simple clarion call. We are at the pinnacle of a Kairos moment— personally, regionally, nationally, globally, generationally.
The chief tactic of the enemy in this season is to cloud your spiritual discernment and deceive you into being complacent regarding the will of the Sovereign God.
But, there is an opportune moment approaching. It will be unexpected, unscheduled, unplanned, and unexplainable.
Those whose hearts are connected to that of the Lord will be drawn to prepare by way of fasting and prayer so that when “kairos” arrives— when sovereignty collides with time— they will not be found in a position where they are unable to receive and respond accordingly.
